This suits a first purchase, a top-up to an existing holding, or simply the most internationally fungible small format available, recognized and resold everywhere without anyone needing the coin expertise a numismatic piece demands. 999.9 fineness clears every purity threshold across the three hubs. Zero-rated at 5 percent UAE VAT, exempt from Singapore's 9 percent GST as an Investment Precious Metal since IPM only asks for 99.5 percent purity, and outside VAT, GST and capital gains tax altogether in Hong Kong. A coin at the same 1oz weight, like the Krugerrand, does not automatically clear that bar, its fineness is only 91.67 percent.

Price and premium in 2026

Spot sat near $4,298 an ounce on 25 Sept 2026, and our range for a 1oz bar is $4,350 to $4,600: premiums run from about 1.3 percent at the sharpest online dealers up to around 5 percent at boutique counters, for the same weight and fineness. That is a wider spread in percentage terms than a wholesale bar carries, because this size holds proportionally more of the refiner's fixed minting and packaging cost per gram.

We do not post a fixed number for the same reason nobody honestly should, spot moves every day. We quote live on WhatsApp against that morning's price, and the dealer's premium on top should always be stated as a clear percentage, not folded into the total. A useful rule of thumb: if two dealers quote the same spot but land more than about 3 percent apart on this size, ask exactly what the second dealer is charging for, since the metal itself is identical.

How to verify before you buy

This is a widely counterfeited size precisely because it is the most commonly traded one, high volume attracts effort from the wrong people too.

• Confirm the refiner is on the current LBMA Good Delivery List.
• Cross-check the serial number online before you pay.
• Verify weight and fineness against the refiner's published spec.
• Buy only from an authorized dealer.
• Compare the quoted premium against live spot before agreeing a price.
